Abrar earned her Bachelor’s degree in Laboratory Medicine from Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah, followed by a Master’s degree in Clinical Microbiology from King Abdulaziz University, where she graduated first in her cohort. During her master’s research, she investigated the genomic epidemiology of community-acquired Staphylococcus aureus (CA-MRSA) isolates from Jeddah using whole-genome sequencing and bioinformatics approaches. Her work included genome assembly, annotation, pan-genome analysis, and high-resolution phylogenetic reconstruction to elucidate the evolutionary relationships and population structure of circulating MRSA lineages. She also characterized antimicrobial resistance genes and virulence determinants to understand the genetic basis of pathogenicity and multidrug resistance. Her current work aims to expand expertise in microbial genomics, bioinformatics, and microbiome science to advance the understanding of infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance.
